The purple oval is for the "O" in Open.  It represents an open door that was previously shut.  The "D" is for Door.  The "D" passing through the "O" symbolizes how The Open Door Group can open those previously shut doors and help people walk through them towards new opportunities and improvements.  The shadow below the main part of the logo just makes it look cool.
